WHO WE ARE

The Children’s Museum at Port Wonder will offer a unique hands-on atmosphere for children and their parents to interact and have fun while learning. Each month we will offer a full list of programs and host Art and STEM Workshops with special event guests throughout the year!

Our History:

The Children’s Museum is a 501 c3 non-profit organization with a 33-year history of promoting the Arts and Humanities in Southwest Louisiana. From its inception in 1988, the museum has consistently provided interpretive exhibits that encompass music, visual and performing arts, folk life, storytelling, and art education.

The Children’s Museum is a member of the United Way family of organizations, as well as a recipient of support from the Children's Miracle Network, the Arts and Humanities of Southwest Louisiana, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, the SWLA Convention and Visitors Bureau, local individuals and corporations, and its many visitors from across the United States and around the world.

The museum enjoys partnerships with the Junior League of Lake Charles, McNeese State University, the Lake Area Industry Alliance, the Newcomers Club of Lake Charles, Art Associates of Lake Charles and the Safety Council of Southwest Louisiana. Recently the museum entered a major partnership with the State of Louisiana, Calcasieu Parish, the City of Sulphur and the City of Lake Charles

What makes us different from our competitors?

We are the only destination of its kind between Houston and Lafayette. We offer over 21,000 square feet encompassing three floors of a historical building in the heart of downtown Lake Charles! The Children’s Museum provides an educational and fun environment that encourages curiosity, creativity and social skills through hands on programs and exhibits.

The continued success of the museum has been a remarkable journey. Over the years, the museum has become a stimulating and educational place to learn, play and grow for thousands of children and families throughout Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. With the support of the community, we will be here to serve future generations.

Why Should You Care and Be Involved?

Because it benefits children and their families and they care. It affects the community as a whole. Children are our future and their development plays a critical role in how the community develops. The museum also brings families and the community together. Close involvement and interaction with your children is very important. It shapes the type of person they will be. Children learn by example and they learn to trust you more with their questions, problems, situations if you build a hands-on relationship early in their development. You can make a difference!
